Experts from Leeds University have pinpointed which parts of the city are likely to damage your health ranking areas on a number of criteria, including access to fast food restaurants, pubs, health services, air quality, leisure facilities and gambling outlets. Amongst the 5 most unhealthy areas are the villages of Scholes, Barwick in Elmet, Aberford and Micklefield. Analysis of the data reveals it is a lack of health and leisure services that is behind their poor showing. Surprisingly, they have also been deemed to have a shortage of green space and surprisingly poor air quality

There are currently two vacancies on Micklefield Parish Council due to insufficient nominations at the election in May 2019. The council can now fill the vacancies by co-option. Kippax Parish Council has created a new guide about keeping active and enjoying the local community. The Keep Moving Around Kippax guide features walking routes, information about local nature reserves and other local facilities that are available for everyone to enjoy. The guide which was funded by the LS25 and LS26 Care Partnership, will be delivered in the next week and is also available on the parish council website

Sherburn Hungate School in Sherburn-in-Elmet is undergoing a £2.5 million refurbishment and extension to almost double capacity and meet growing population demands. The primary school, which is run by the Sherburn, Tadcaster and Rural - Multi-Academy Trust, currently has 243 pupils and will be have capacity grow to 446 once the work is complete in April 2021.

03/01/2019 Peckfield and Parlington Plans Squashed by the Inspectors
Hearty congratulations to Garforth Neighbourhood Forum, the Save Parlington Campaign and our local councillors for their sustained campaigns against building houses on Green Belt land around Garforth and Aberford. We are not short of brown field sites in the Outer South East of Leeds so there was never any need to use farm land for much needed affordable housing. Thank you also to the Inspectors for showing LCC the error of their ways. We must all hope their recommendation is heeded.

10/09/2016 Local Airport’s Charter Flights Plan
The owners of the Leeds East Airport at Church Fenton, Tadcaster, have applied for an operator's licence by the Civil Aviation Authority. The airport plans to offer up to four flights a day to Cannes, Faro and Malaga from May 2017. Residents have raised concerns over aircraft noise and an increase in traffic congestion. A spokesman for the airport said there were no plans to introduce scheduled flights but the airfield would concentrate on a limited number of "VIP service" charter flights costing around £1,000 per person for a return ticket.
