Alex Burton hit two goals in the first twelve minutes to see off Eccleshill United in a fine 2-1 home win. Gale force winds made conditions difficult but Garforth coped best and were rarely threatened by the Eagles, until a lapse of concentration allowed Jacob Buchanan to pull one back from a corner in the 90th minute.
24/02/2020 Burglary Appeal
At around 11am last Wednesday 5 men wearing balaclavas and driving a red Audi A3 smashed the rear patio door of a property on Haddlesey Road in Birkin. When they were challenged by a neighbour they threatened him with a crowbar and made off in the vehicle. The vehicle was stopped in West Yorkshire and 4 males were arrested and will now be spoken to about the incident. Police are appealing for any information, especially CCTV covering this vehicle or the offenders. Please contact us on 101 quoting ref 12200029282.
23/02/2020 Pair Let Horse Deteriorate
Richard Marnick, 24, and Catherine Brooksbank, 42, were fined at Leeds Magistrates Court on February 21 after being convicted of causing unnecessary suffering to a protected animal. The court heard that Marnick paid Brooksbank, who is an experienced trainer, £80 a week to look after him at her stables in Garforth. Archie appeared to be healthy when he and Marnick paid for the full livery package, that included hay and hard feed, but after 18 months he was found to have deteriorated and lost a lot of weight. Marnick, of The Marsh in Pudsey, was fined £532 at Leeds Magistrates' Court and £300 of that money will be sent to the RSPCA. Brooksbank, of Severn Drive in Garforth, was fined £982 and £750 of that money will be sent to the RSPCA.

22/02/2020 Christmas Drink Driver Banned
David Baldwin from Seacroft was stopped by police officers concerned about the way he was driving his car in Kippax on Christmas Eve. He told the officers he had just drunk a half litre of whiskey and that he didn’t have a driving licence. He pleaded guilty to failing to provide a breath specimen, having no insurance and possessing cannabis. He was ordered to complete a 24 day rehabilitation activity and was banned from driving for three years
22/02/2020 Making Japan Exhibition
A new exhibition at Lotherton Hall will take visitors on a journey to Japan thanks to fascinating links forged decades ago by one time Ambassador to Japan Sir Alvary Gascoigne, who inherited Lotherton in 1937. Sir Alvary’s career took him to countries across the world and exposed him to many different cultures. Making Japan will be at Lotherton from 1st March until 18th October. A series of events and workshops will be taking place as part of the exhibition.

03/01/2019 Peckfield and Parlington Plans Squashed by the Inspectors
Hearty congratulations to Garforth Neighbourhood Forum, the Save Parlington Campaign and our local councillors for their sustained campaigns against building houses on Green Belt land around Garforth and Aberford. We are not short of brown field sites in the Outer South East of Leeds so there was never any need to use farm land for much needed affordable housing. Thank you also to the Inspectors for showing LCC the error of their ways. We must all hope their recommendation is heeded.

10/09/2016 Local Airport’s Charter Flights Plan
The owners of the Leeds East Airport at Church Fenton, Tadcaster, have applied for an operator's licence by the Civil Aviation Authority. The airport plans to offer up to four flights a day to Cannes, Faro and Malaga from May 2017. Residents have raised concerns over aircraft noise and an increase in traffic congestion. A spokesman for the airport said there were no plans to introduce scheduled flights but the airfield would concentrate on a limited number of "VIP service" charter flights costing around £1,000 per person for a return ticket.
