20/07/2018 Missing Womanís Clothes Found
Clothes worn by 52 year old Garforth woman Denise Birdsall were found on a beach near Scarborough. Denise travelled to Scarborough on Monday morning and her clothes were found on the beach at Cayton Bay on Tuesday evening. She is being treated as a missing person

20/07/2018 Hungate School Garden Project
The Osgoldcross and Elmet Rotary are supporting Sherburn Hungate Primary School with the renovation of their overgrown Wildlife Area, to create a usable space to help the children connect and learn about nature and animals. The project is estimated to place over the summer holidays to be completed and ready for the new school year is September.

Lotherton Hall will celebrate Yorkshire day on 1st August with a community gala. The event will include stalls, live performances and a minersí march with banners and brass bands. It takes place from 11am till 4pm.

19/07/2018 Brass in the Park
Garforth Jubilee Band will be performing a free concert of banding music, popular arrangements and more at Roundhay Park on Sunday 19th August from 2.30pm. Garforth Jubilee Brass Band was established in 1977 to commemorate the Silver Jubilee of HRH Queen Elizabeth II. Entry is free.

18/07/2018 Rail Strike Called Off
A planned strike in the long-running dispute over the role of guards on trains has been called off while talks take place between the Union and train operators. Members of the Rail, Maritime and Transport (RMT) union on Arriva Rail North were due to walk out for 24 hours on 21st July. The long-running dispute between Unite the union and Northern bosses revolves around guards on trains - a role which operators are looking to phase out. The latest reprieve follows months of disruption for Northern passengers, more recently blamed on a new timetable upset caused by delayed Network Rail works.

18/07/2018 Closed for Refurbishment
Monk Fryston Post Office and village store will be temporarily closed for refurbishment. The Post Office will close from 5.30pm on 30th July and the store will close from 7pm on 1st August. Both parts will reopen for business at 7am on Monday 13th August

The grand opening of the Grand Bengal Indian and Bangladeshi Restaurant and Takeaway takes place on 26th September at 18 Cross Hills Kippax. There are opening offers for dining in and takeaways. 10/09/2016 Local Airportís Charter Flights Plan
The owners of the Leeds East Airport at Church Fenton, Tadcaster, have applied for an operator's licence by the Civil Aviation Authority. The airport plans to offer up to four flights a day to Cannes, Faro and Malaga from May 2017. Residents have raised concerns over aircraft noise and an increase in traffic congestion. A spokesman for the airport said there were no plans to introduce scheduled flights but the airfield would concentrate on a limited number of "VIP service" charter flights costing around £1,000 per person for a return ticket.
