2025-02-21  Local Man Trials Wafer

Markus Rasche, 64, a father-of-one from Monk Fryston is one of the first to benefit from a wafer-like implant that soothes pain before dissolving and could boost recovery after knee replacement surgery. Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust is involved in an international study trialling this new, painkilling wafer-like dissolvable implant. 

 

2025-02-07  Comedy Night

There is a Comedy Night at Monk Fryston Community Centre on Saturday 22nd March at 6pm. Admission is ?20 including Indian street food. The event is organised by Monk Fryston JFC. 

 

2025-01-29  Wise Owl Quiz

Tickets are now on sale for the Wise Owl Quiz 2025 at Monk Fryston and Hillam Community Centre on Saturday 8th February. The quiz starts at 7.30pm and tickets are ?8. The price includes supper.  

 

2025-01-20  Artefacts Disappear

Artefacts from 2 of 3 mini museum cabinets located in Monk Fryston Hall have been removed by person or persons unknown and are regarded as a theft and a gross vandalism of the village?s cultural heritage. Amongst the 50 items taken are a 13th century stone mortar, an early medieval/viking age knife and a 14th century horse fitting. The owners have declined to report the theft to the police.  

 

2024-10-30  Solar Farm Proposal

A massive solar farm, as big as more than 2,600 football pitches to generate 500mw of power, enough to power up to 115,000 homes, has been proposed between Selby and Tadcaster. Known as Light Valley Solar, the Green Island Power project is proposed in areas between Monk Fryston, Hambleton and Escrick. 

 

2024-10-09  Monk Fryston Art and Craft Fair

The annual Monk Fryston Art and Craft Fair will be held on Sunday 20th October from 10am to 3pm in the nearby village hall of Thorpe Willoughby as they have outgrown the facilities available in Monk Fryston. All artworks and crafts exhibited and for sale are the work of Art Club members. Admission is free. 

 

2024-09-30  Caravan Stolen

Police are appealing for information after a caravan was stolen from a property off the A63 between the village of Hambleton and Monk Fryston. The white Elegance Grade, Model 835 caravan was taken at around 9pm on Monday 23rd September. If you have any dashcam footage or have any information that could help with this investigation, please call North Yorkshire police on 101. 

 

2024-08-27  Grassroots Camps

The Leeds United summer camp is at Monk Fryston United JFC, Stocking Lane for 2 days on 29th and 30th August for children aged 5 to 12. The cost is ?25 a day. Contact skill.centre@ leedsunited.com for more information. 

 

2024-07-10  Beer Festival

Monk Fryston and Hillam Beer Festival is on 13th and 14th September. Friday night is adults only and Saturday is family fun day with music, kids? entertainment, food and drinks.
