2021-10-02 Knitted Memorial to Peckfield Disaster
A knitted memorial to mark the 125 anniversary of the Peckfield Colliery tragedy has been unveiled at a museum in Leeds. The memorial features in Eye of the Miner, a new touring exhibition launched at Lotherton. On 30th April, 1896, an underground gas explosion caused the mine in Micklefield, West Yorkshire, to collapse and sadly 63 men and boys, and 19 ponies died.
2021-08-31 Windfarm Windfall for Craft Group
A craft group that is a lifeline for its members in Micklefield is set to start regular meetings again next month and hopes to attract more people after a grant from a wind farm fund. Micklefield Craft Group has been awarded a £500 grant from the community benefits fund linked to the nearby Hook Moor wind farm operated by Banks.

Households in Micklefield pay the highest council tax at £1,897.63 which is the highest across all of Leeds. Aberford and District pay the 4th highest charges at £1,826.98. A Band D property in most parts of Leeds £1,799.75 a year in tax, up from £1,711.15 in 2020/21. The reason for the higher rates in some communities is the precept charged by the local parish council on top of the charge set by Leeds City Council.

For steam train enthusiasts who missed it the Flying Scotsman which passed through the area last Sunday will be running the route again next Sunday, passing through Micklefield at 9.54am and returning at 21.02
2021-06-23 Rail Disruption in July
Rail passengers are facing major disruption next month as 450 metres of track between York and Church Fenton are upgraded. Between the last service on Friday 2nd July and the first train on Monday 5th July, track will be lifted on the line running through Ulleskelf station, and further upgrade work will mean changes to Northernís Sunday service throughout July. Northern services between Leeds and York on 3rd July will start/end at Micklefield, with buses between Micklefield and York. On 4th July, trains between Leeds and York will be diverted and start/end at Selby, with buses between Selby and York.

The unveiling of a new memorial to Peckfield Pit Disaster and Micklefieldís mining heritage will take place on Saturday 22nd May at noon. The memorial will be unveiled by the three Kippax and Methley Ward councillors. Everyone is welcome to attend the ceremony.
2021-05-05 Derailment Brings Rail Chaos
An engineering train derailed shortly before 3am at Church Fenton on Tuesday morning. This has resulted in huge delays on the rail network across Yorkshire, affecting Northern, CrossCountry, TransPennine Express and LNER services. Northern are warning that delays and cancellations are expected until midday on Wednesday.
2021-04-30 Archbishop Leads the Way
The Archbishop of York the Right Reverend Stephen Cottrell will lead the memorial service at St Marys Micklefield to commemorate the 125th anniversary of the mining disaster at Peckfield Pit that killed 63 men and boys. The service will be held at 7.30pm on Friday 30th April at the memorial to the victims outside St Marys Church.
