2019-08-15  Rail Price Increase Set for January

Rail prices are set to rise again in January by around 2.8 percent. Increases are based on the July Retail Price Index. As a result an annual season ticket from Micklefield to Leeds is likely to increase from £1,076 to £1,106  

 

2019-07-05  Highest Council Tax Areas

The most expensive Leeds areas for council tax in 2019 have been revealed. Micklefield is most expenisve at £1750.88 for a band D property. Great Preston is 11th, Kippax is 14th, Swillington 16th and Aberford 20th at £1671.86 . Standard band D ( ie excluding Parish precept) is £1644.90 

 

2019-06-30  Best Business Location

A photograph taken in Micklefield has been shortlisted in a competition to find the World’s Best Business Locations. The photo was taken at Makin-Jones’ farm which produces strawberries for the likes of Claridges, Ocado and Michelin star chefs. The winner of the competition, which is being run by London-based tech company UENI, will be revealed on the UENI website on World Entrepreneurs’ Day, 21st August. The World’s Best Business Locations competition is open for entries until 19th July. 

 

2019-06-27  Fish Shop Owner Brandished Knife

Fish shop owner Kalvinder Mander brandished a knife at customer who complained about the quality of the takeaway's vinegar. The 52-year-old grandmother picked up a bread knife from the counter and hit the customer with the handle of it when he tried to leave York Road Fisheries and Pizza Bar in Leeds without paying for his chip butty. Mander, of Honeysuckle Close, Micklefield, Leeds, pleaded guilty to threatening a person with a bladed article in a public place. Sentencing, Judge Christopher Batty told Mander: "You did not point the blade of the knife at him. It would be unjust to send you to custody.” Mander was ordered to complete 100 hours of unpaid work and pay £300 in prosecution costs and a statutory surcharge. 

 

2019-06-26  Stolen White Van

At 4am on 24th June a white ford transit tipper van, registration ND12 DHM was stolen from outside an address on Beech Croft, Barlby. The van was sign-written with ' D G LANDSCAPING'. Local CCTV shows the stolen vehicle leaving in convoy with a dark coloured Ford Mondeo. The vehicle was last sighted on Monday morning in a small car park in Micklefield. Police are appealing for anyone with any information regarding this stolen vehicle to contact North Yorkshire Police on 101 ref 12190113454 

 

2019-06-04  Parish Council Vacancies

There are currently two vacancies on Micklefield Parish Council due to insufficient nominations at the recent election. If you are interested in becoming a parish councillor, please write to the parish council and include a few details of why you would like to become a councillor. Deadline for written applications is Wednesday 19th June 2019

Micklefield Mini Gala takes place at Churchville House Micklefield on Saturday 13th July from noon. 

 

2019-05-22  Mum and Daughter Dance for Cancer UK

A Micklefield woman who lost her dad to cancer took part in a charity ballroom event with her daughter to raise money for Cancer Research UK. Ann Hughes and granddaughter Nicole Houghton took part in the Ultra Ballroom event at the Royal Armouries Museum to honour Mr Tedhill, who passed away in 2011. The mother and daughter danced together in front of more than 300 people, raising £1,449 for Cancer Research UK. The couple scored 32 points out of 40, finishing in the top 10 out of 27. 

 

2019-05-07  More Places Plan at Micklefield School

Leeds City Council propose to permanently expand Micklefield Church of England Primary School, increasing the admission number into the reception class from 20 to 30 places from September 2021 and each year thereafter, eventually creating 70 additional places overall. They are inviting comments to this proposal which must reach them by 3rd June
