2019-05-26  Wellbeing Walks

RSPB Fairburn Ings marked Dementia Awareness Week by launching its new monthly Wellbeing Walks to connect more people with the Aire Valley. A similar programme has run at St Aidan’s since July 2018. The event is free and led by RSPB rangers. The event will take place on the second Thursday of the month. The St Aidan’s event takes place on the last Wednesday of each month 

 

2019-05-18  Dementia Roadshow

An NHS dementia roadshow will be held at Kippax Community Centre from 10am to noon on Thursday 27th June. The public are invited to learn more about dementia and the support available. 

 

2019-05-18  Funfair Fun

Kippax Family Funfair has arrived for the weekend and is open today from 1.30pm to 9.30pm and on Sunday from 1pm to 8pm on the field behind Kippax Leisure Centre. There are stalls, food, children’s rides and thrill rides. 

 

2019-05-17  Murder Mystery Afternoon

There will be a Murder Mystery Afternoon at Kippax Community Hub at Kippax Library on Monday 13th June from 2pm to 3pm. Listen to witness statements and see if you can work out who the killer is. Contact the Community Hub on 0113 3781878 to book a place at the event 

 

2019-05-15  Sky Try Playoffs

Leeds Rhinos Foundation have hosted Sky Try 9s Playoffs for year 7,8 and 9 boys at Brigshaw High School with 330 children and 31 teams taking part. The playoffs decided who would qualify for the finals at Stanningley ARLFC on 22nd May. 

 

2019-04-27  Builder Helping Swimming Club

Kippax Amateur Swimming Club has received a £1000 boost from Persimmon Homes West Yorkshire’s Community Champions initiative. The donation will be used to purchase training equipment including floats, fins and diving blocks. Persimmon is building homes at the Woodside development in Kippax. The swimming club was founded in 1975 and has more than 100 members. 

 

2019-04-18  Kippax Couple Cycling for Prostate Cancer

Alex and Jenna Easton, from Kippax, are tackling a 145-mile fundraising tandem bike ride to Amsterdam over two days in June to raise funds for Prostate Cancer UK. They have already raised more than £1,700 through donations to their JustGiving page www.justgiving.com /fundraising /tandem-whites 

 

2019-04-17  Growing Zone Wins Award

The Growing Zone Group in Kippax has been granted a Duke of York Community Initiative award for its “excellent work”. The Duke presented the certificate to Growing Zone’s placement worker Daniel Moran at a ceremony in Catterick earlier this month. The scheme on Gibson Lane is an allotment garden project for children and adults with special needs, which helps build confidence. 

 

2019-04-16  Speed Cameras on Ridge Road

Leeds City Council and West Yorkshire Police have issued the list of speed camera locations to be aware of this week. One of the ten sites will be the A656 Ridge Road at Ledston. 

 

2019-04-15  Reunion for Murder

Kippax Dramatic Society will be presenting a murder mystery entitled Reunion for Murder at St Mary’s Church Hall, Kippax on 24th to 26th April at 7.30pm. Tickets are £12 including a two course supper. Bring your own drinks. To book call 0113 2862834
