2017-06-25  Big White Birds at Fairburn Ings

A family of spoonbills has set up home At Fairburn Ings RSPB reserve and hatched chicks for the first time in northern England. Spoonbills have not nested regularly in England since the 1700s. Because of their rarity in the UK these large white heron-like birds are a protected species

Year7 students from Brigshaw High School took part in the Opera North Big Sing event last Monday. The concert took place in the beautiful surroundings of Wakefield Cathedral

Two local restaurants have made the shortlist for the Yorkshire Evening Post Curry House of the Year 2017 competition. Grand Bengal restaurant at Cross Hills Kippax and Grand Indian Lounge Swillington have made the final ten list. Voting must be on the coupons printed in the Evening Post. Closing date is 7th July

2017-06-17  Ings are Sixty Years Old

This summer RSPB Fairburn Ings is celebrating sixty years as a designated nature reserve. From July there will be a display in the visitors centre. Fairburn Ings is one of the biggest and most bio-diverse sites in Yorkshire

RSPB St Aidanís will be supporting ĎThe Great Get Togetherí this Sunday. The event marks the 1 year anniversary of the death of MP Jo Cox. St Aidanís is inviting everyone along to enjoy a picnic in the sun

2017-05-22  Band Secretary Dies

Kippax Band have announced the death of Keith Fairburn, who until recently had been Band Secretary. Keith is known throughout the banding community not only for being an exceptional bass trombone player, but his industrious allegiance to a single band for close to six decades.
