2020-01-16  Alderman Wakefield

Former Kippax Councillor Keith Wakefield is one of nine former councillors who were given the title of honorary Aldermen of the City of Leeds at a special ceremony at the Civic Hall yesterday. Councillor Wakefield became a councillor in 1988 and was leader of the council for two periods of time before stepping down as a councillor last year council on two separate occasions 


2020-01-10  Homes Plan for Former Medical Centre

Wheatley Construction has submitted plans to restore a former doctors’ surgery for use as two houses. The old Radshan Medical Centre closed 2 years ago after struggling to recruit GPs 


2020-01-08  Plan for Estate Agents

A planning application has been submitted to Leeds City Council by the House Share Company to convert a former estate agents at 13-15 High Street Kippax into four studio apartments. A decision is expected at a later date. 


2020-01-06  Burglary at Wildlife Centre

Thieves used crowbars and disc cutters to break into RSPB Fairburn Ings near Castleford on the night of 28th December. They stole several laptops, a TV and damaged several outbuildings and the electronic gates to the site. CCTV captured the group breaking into the site. 


2020-01-04  Accessibility Award for St Aidans

RSPB St Aidans has been awarded the 2019 Good Access Scheme award from Yorkshire charity Open Country for the efforts of staff and volunteers to create a fully accessible path for wheelchair users and people with a disability. The project was funded by HSBC 


2019-12-30  Dusk Walk

There is a Dusk Walk at Fairburn Ings on Wednesday 8th January. This walk is suitable for everyone and is great for those who would like some company wildlife watching and walking on the reserve in the dark. The walk will last about two hours on good footpaths, sturdy footwear is recommended as well as warm clothing and a torch. The cost is £7.50 or £6 for RSPB members. In the event of bad weather, they may postpone the walk to the following Wednesday.  


2019-12-28  WW2 Anniversary Events

There will be a Commemoration Weekend Event in Kippax for 75th Anniversary of the End of WW2 on 13th and 14th June 2020. This will include a 1940’s dance at Kippax Ex-Service and Social Club on Saturday 13th June. Tickets are £6 to include a pie and pea supper. 


2019-12-27  Road Closures in New Year

Yorkshire Water is planning on replacing the water mains on Leeds Road, Kippax, in the New Year which will involve a road closure and multiway lights for upto 3 months. To alleviate disruption the road closure part will encompass the school half term holidays but it is expected to last 3 weeks. The works are expected to start on the 27/01/2020 – 24/04/2020 


2019-12-26  Snow White

Kippax Amateur Operatic Society presents Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs at Castleford Phoenix Theatre from 8th to 12th January. Performances are 7.15pm on Wednesday to Friday and 1pm and 5.30pm on Saturday and Sunday. Tickets are £14 for adults and £12 for children 


2019-12-26  Spray Paint Found

Police officers attended at St Aidens nature reserve and seized a quantity of spray paint that had been hidden there with the intention of causing damage at a later date. The paint has been disposed of.
