Television naturalist Chris Packham will be visiting Fairburn Ings on Thursday 19th July as part of his investigation into the threat to the nation’s wildlife. Fairburn Ings is one of 50 sites being visited by Mr Packham and his Bioblitz team.
2018-07-01 Pupils Win Blooming Award for School
Thomas Wheelhouse and Zachary Brabbs of Kippax Greenfield Primary School were amongst the winners of the Design a Flowerbed award at the annual Leeds in Bloom awards at the Civic Hall. They took home an art set and a holdall and earned their school a £300 voucher to spend at the Arium plant nursery

2018-06-29 Big Wild Sleepout
The RSPB is challenging families to take part in its Big Wild Sleepout at Fairburn Ings on 28th and 29th July. Families are invited to pitch their tents and get closer to nature, particularly those creatures that come out on the reserve after dark. To book a place visit the rspb.org.uk website

There is an open day today for the Walking Dragline Excavator at RSPB St Aidans. This is the second open day of the year and runs from 1pm to 4pm at the Astley Lane site. The event and parking is free.

2018-06-09 Battle’s Over
Villagers in Kippax are taking part in a tribute marking 100 years since the end of the First World War. Battle’s Over is a Government initiative taking place on 11th November. Local residents are researching the history of those soldiers who returned from war, and the effects of the war on them. Displays of this social history research will be displayed at Kippax Methodist Church, Kippax St Mary’s church and the church hall in the run up to the Armistice Day anniversary.
