2021-10-06   Fireworks in Hillam

Monk Fryston United JFC will be holding fireworks at the Cricket Club in Hillam from 5.30pm on Saturday 6th November. Tickets are on sale at the post office and the Potting Shed priced £5 for adults and £3 for under 16’s. There will be music, a BBQ, a bar and lots of fun.

2021-08-16   Appeal Made for Proposed Gypsy Site

An Appeal has been lodged with the Secretary of State against Selby District Council's decision to Refuse the application for 'Change of Use' of the proposed gypsy site on Hillam Lane. 

 

2021-06-21   Riding for Alzheimers

Hillam residents Neal Wilson, Rob Preston and Iain Mitchell , members of Monk Fryston cycling club (MFCC) took part in MFCC’s ride for Alzheimer’s Research on Saturday. Club riders rode up to 200 miles, raising over £4000 for the charity. 

 

2021-06-17   Grant to Protect Remote Areas

North Yorkshire’s Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner has been awarded £429,986 from the Home Office. It will be used to protect individual homes and farms in parts of Selby close to the border with West, South and East Yorkshire, and also includes a focus on using ANPR cameras to deter and detect potential burglars. The areas covered will be Carlton, Camblesforth, Hirst Courtney, Birkin and Hillam with around 1,600 households and 50 farms and small holdings eligible to receive the targeted support. 

 

2021-06-10   Court Ruling on Travellers’ Land

A court Injunction on Land on Hillam Lane, which had been purchased and occupied by Travelling families, has been heard at the County Court in Leeds. The Judge has ruled that they must leave and re-instate the land; however they do still have 2 months to appeal against the Planning Application submitted in October 2020 which Selby District Council refused on 1st June 2021. 

 

2021-05-17   Stabbing at Thorpe Willoughby

A stabbing occurred at around 2am on Saturday morning in Thorpe Willoughby. An 18-year-old man suffered stab wounds and was taken to hospital and has received treatment for his injuries. A 21-year-old man has been arrested in the Selby area and remains in custody for questioning. Residents may continue to see an increased police presence in the area as they continue their investigation, including carrying out house-to-house and CCTV enquiries. 

 

2021-05-12   It’s a Sign

Hillam Parish Council have announced that all footpath improvements in the village are now completed - footpath hedges cut back, new pavings at foopath entrances and NYCC sign improvements. There are also new signpost markers for the walk to Birkin, which will be installed shortly.
