Aberford is bracing itself for road restrictions relating to the annual Leeds Festival which takes place from 23rd to 25th August. Traffic is directed to approach Bramham Park via the A1. The A64 has drop off and pick up zones and becomes one way from 9pm on Sunday evening until about 3pm on the Monday with the Fox and Grapes to the A1 closed to traffic travelling eastbound from Leeds to York 


2019-08-17   Lotherton Vintage Weekend

Vintage Weekend at Lotherton Hall takes place on 17th and 18th August from 11am to 4pm each day. Usual admission fees for Lotherton Hall apply each day. There will be up to 25 stalls of genuine vintage fashion, homewares, small furniture, jewellery, records and collectables from the 1920's to the 1980's spread throughout the grounds, also live music from The Pretend Beatles, a handful of classic cars and games, as well as the vintage fair. 


2019-08-10   Top Ten Attraction

Lotherton Hall with its historic hall and popular Wildlife World, is one of the top ten visitor attractions across the whole of Yorkshire, with almost half a million people passing through its gates over the last year. It is situated within a stunning Edwardian country house and grounds, north of Leeds. 


2019-08-08   End of an Era

50 years ago this month Lotherton Hall was gifted to the people of Leeds by Sir Alvary Gascoigne. On this 50th anniversary, visitors will be able to find out more about the Gascoigne family and the decision to hand over Lotherton Hall to the public, by immersing themselves in a new exhibition called 'End of an Era'. 


2019-08-02   Pothole Complaints

More than 37,000 complaints were made about the state of roads in Leeds between 2014 and 2019. The highest number of complaints was in Harewood ward where 2,376 complaints were made. In Garforth and Swillington there were 1029 complaints and in Kippax and Methley ward 653 complaints

Three neighbours who live in LS25 3AP, at the northern end of Aberford, were given a massive shock when TV presenter Jeff Brazier turned up on their doorstep on Tuesday with giant cheques worth £30,000 from the Post Code Lottery. 


2019-07-13   Where is the Next Nellieís Tree?

Following the success of Nellieís Tree in 2018 The Woodland Trust is inviting nominations for its Tree of the Year competition 2019. Any individual, group or organisation can nominate a tree and share its story on the charity's website. Nominations are open until 19th July. The entries will then be shortlisted by a panel of independent experts before facing a public vote.

Liz Ness, who used to be a primary teacher at Aberford Junior School, enjoys languages so much that she has launched weekly French lessons for fellow residents at Windsor Court care home in Wetherby. Now in her early seventies, Liz is passionate about French and studied it at college. 


2019-05-31   Prickly Couple at Lotherton

Lotherton Hallís Wildlife World attraction has taken possession of two African Crested Porcupines. They are thought to be a male and female pair. The porcupines have been joined at Wildlife World by a group of hyraxes, who have also newly arrived on the site. Hyraxes are a small breed of mammal found in Africa which is distantly related to elephants and manatees. 


2019-05-10   Museums and Exhibitions Visitors Up

More than 1.7 million people visited Leedsís museums and art galleries last year, an increase of 23 percent on the previous year. Leeds City Council has the largest council-run collection of museums in the UK, including Lotherton, Temple Newsam, Kirkstall Abbey, Thwaite Watermill, Abbey House Museum, Leeds Industrial Museum, Leeds City Museum and Leeds Art Gallery.
