2018-11-22   Visit the Maras

Lotherton Wildlife World has become the only zoo in the UK to be home to a group of rare Chacoan maras, a South American relative of the guinea pig. The new additions arrived from Prague Zoo and once settled in will take part in an international breeding programme. 

 

2018-11-11   Lotherton Christmas

Lotherton Hall has revealed that tickets for its Santa Weekends are selling fast. A host of activities will be on offer including the Twelve Days of Christmas woodland walk, the Elf Village, the Christmas Courtyard and the North Pole where children can help Santa’s elves in their workshop.. The event runs from 23rd November to 23rd December and Santa will be in residence daily from 3.40pm  

 

2018-11-09   WW1 Centenary Event

There will be a community event on Friday 9th November 2018 from 4pm – 6pm in Aberford Village Hall to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War. Light refreshments will be served and The Village Harmonies Choir will attend to sing songs. Come along to learn about the fallen men from the village and to read the Headmaster’s log book from this time. 

 

2018-10-31   UK Tree of the Year

Nellie’s Tree has been crowned the UK's tree of the year beating a giant redwood in Northern Ireland, a Scottish spruce and a Welsh oak to scoop the overall prize. Nellie's tree will now go on to represent the UK in the European tree of the year contest in early 2019. 

 

2018-10-26   Big Friendly Coffee Morning

The Friendly Fridays café at the village hall in Aberford raised £193.50 at their Macmillan Big Coffee morning in September. 

 

2018-10-22   Tree of the Year

A beech tree grafted into an N-shape to woo a woman called Nellie has been named as England's Tree of the Year. The Woodland Trust, which runs the competition, said Nellie's Tree at Aberford, near Leeds, was formed almost 100 years ago by Vic Stead. 

 

2018-09-28   Mining Exhibition at Lotherton Hall

An exhibition bringjng stories of Yorkshire’s miners to life is running at Lotherton Hall until the end of October. Visitors can see artefacts from the National Coal Mining Museum 

 

2018-09-23   Lotherton Christmas Experience

Tickets are now on sale for the Lotherton Hall Christmas Experience, which runs from 23rd November to 23rd December. There will be the twelve Days of Christmas Woodland walk, the Elf Village, the Enchanted Fairy Dell and the Christmas Courtyard. Ticket prices range from £3.50 to £7 

 

2018-09-21   Nellie’s Tree

Nellie’s Tree in Parlington has been shortlisted in the Woodland Trust’s Tree of the Year 2018 competition. The tree was grafted in to a letter N almost 100 years ago by Garforth man Victor Stead for his girlfriend Nellie. It is known as the Love Tree by locals. 

 

2018-09-18   Big Coffee at Friendly Cafe

The Friendly Fridays Cafe at Aberford village hall is holding a Macmillan Big Coffee Morning on Friday 28th September. The event will take place between 10am and 4pm with all proceed being donated to Macmillan Cancer Support.
