2019-05-10 Museums and Exhibitions Visitors Up
More than 1.7 million people visited Leeds’s museums and art galleries last year, an increase of 23 percent on the previous year. Leeds City Council has the largest council-run collection of museums in the UK, including Lotherton, Temple Newsam, Kirkstall Abbey, Thwaite Watermill, Abbey House Museum, Leeds Industrial Museum, Leeds City Museum and Leeds Art Gallery.
2019-05-05 Horse Breeder Jailed
A Leeds Crown Court judge jailed 54-year-old Andrew Hinde of Becca Farm, Aberford, for eleven months and banned him from keeping animals indefinitely for showing a "cavalier attitude" to animal welfare. Hinde kept 20 horses at his own farm and more than 50 ponies in fields he rented at Westfield Farm at Kirk Smeaton. In February 2017 RSPCA inspectors went to Westfield Farm and found some of the ponies were in poor condition. In July 2017 RSPCA inspectors went to Becca Farm and seized 20 horses after finding that some were being kept in conditions that didn't meet their needs.
2019-05-03 Lotherton Food and Drink Festival
Lotherton Hall is hosting its popular food festival this Bank Holiday weekend. Street food stands, bars, and entertainment will be on offer at the stately home in Aberford. The event has been running since 2016. The event takes place on Saturday 4th May, Sunday 5th May and Monday 6th May from 10am-5pm. Day tickets on the gate are £8 for adults and £4 for children. A family pass for two adults and two children is £21.50. Weekend tickets are also available.
2019-04-16 Council U-turn on Discounts
Leeds City Council have suspended plans to remove Leeds Card admission discount at several visitor attractions including Lotherton Hall, Temple Newsam Home Farm and Tropical World following a backlash from customers. Existing discounts for Leeds Card and Breeze Card holders will continue while further consultation is carried out.

2019-03-24 A Mad Hatter Easter
Lotherton Hall is hosting a Mad Hatter of an Easter from Saturday 30th March to Sunday 28th April with four weeks of family fun. Get lost in the Wonderland Village, follow the white rabbit’s trail and get creative with kooky crafts. There will be crafts to make in the House every day and a chance to meet the Easter Bunny on Tuesdays. The Mad Hatter’s Tea Party will be taking place each Wednesday during April

Leave Means Leave campaigners walking 270 miles from Sunderland to London passed through Aberford on Wednesday on the leg of the march from Wetherby to Pontefract.

The winner of the European Tree of the Year 2019 was The Almond Tree of the Snowy Hill in Pecs, Hungary. Nellie’s tree finished ninth out of fifteen entries with 14,408 votes. The winner was announced at an Award Ceremony in the European Parliament last night
2019-03-15 Timber at Lotherton Hall
The strong winds accompanying Storm Gareth on Wednesday led to a tree falling onto a path near to the Hall at Lotherton Hall. No damage was caused to the building and council staff made the site safe.
