Doncaster Ramblers assisted on a visit to Lotherton Hall for carers and some cared-for people as part of the Stepping Out Initiative,

To support Carers Week 2022 Lotherton Hall would like to invite carers to join them for a cup of tea or coffee for free at Lotherton. Simply pop in to the Stables Café between 6—12 June and let the team know you are a carer. Then sit back, relax, and enjoy your brew. 

 

2022-05-28   Man Dies in A64 Crash

A 19-year-old man was killed in a crash on the A64 on Friday morning. North Yorkshire Police confirmed his death following the closure of the road from the A1 junction at Aberford to Steeton, near Tadcaster. The crash happened at 1am when the man's Vauxhall Corsa collided with an HGV parked in a layby next to the eastbound carriageway. He died at the scene and nobody else was injured. 

 

2022-05-13   Church Vandalised

Grade II-listed St Mary's Church, Lead, which stands in isolated fields near the village of Saxton, near Tadcaster has been vandalised by a group who left an 'apology' note including a fake phone number. 

 

2022-04-28   It’s Arthur’s Day

Lotherton Hall's Arthur the Tapir enjoyed a bumper feed on his special day as Lotherton Wildlife World celebrated World Tapir Day on Wednesday. Arthur, almost ten years old, arrived at Lotherton from Flamingo Land around five years ago and has since been enjoying his specially-designed habitat on the Aberford estate. Now in its 15th year, World Tapir Day takes place annually on 27th April.

A new exhibition at Lotherton Hall celebrates 200 years of getting dressed to impress with a fashion exhibition celebrating eveningwear through the ages.

A pair of Goeldi’s monkeys are the latest additions at Lotherton’s Wildlife World. The monkeys come from the Amazon rainforests and can jump upto 4 metres. 

 

2022-04-06   Battle of Towton

Towton Battlefield Society will be celebrating the anniversary of the 1461 Battle of Towton on Palm Sunday 10th April. Pop along to the barn in Towton between 10am and 4pm to support the Battlefield society and learn about the amazing history in our local area. There will be guided walks and fun activities for all the family. 

 

2022-03-30   Alba’s Latest Adventure

Alba Stogden, aged 6, will be walking around 70 miles from Castleford in West Yorkshire to Scarborough in North Yorkshire to raise money for the suicide prevention charity, Papyrus. Alba, from Pontefract, will set off on the challenge on 20th April, arriving in Scarborough five days later. Alba and mum Sophie will pass through areas including Aberford, Tadcaster, York, Malton, and Ganton before reaching Scarborough. 2022-03-21   Highest Covid Rates

Coronavirus infections are rising across the UK. In Leeds, cases went up by 56.3 per cent, with 3,278 new cases in the week to 10th March. Aberford, Barwick and Thorner had 749.2 Covid-19 cases per 100,000 people in the latest week, a rise of 152.6% from the week before.
