2019-03-20 Nellie’s Tree Misses Out in Europe
The winner of the European Tree of the Year 2019 was The Almond Tree of the Snowy Hill in Pecs, Hungary. Nellie’s tree finished ninth out of fifteen entries with 14,408 votes. The winner was announced at an Award Ceremony in the European Parliament last night
2019-03-15 Timber at Lotherton Hall
The strong winds accompanying Storm Gareth on Wednesday led to a tree falling onto a path near to the Hall at Lotherton Hall. No damage was caused to the building and council staff made the site safe.
2019-03-11 Fingers Crossed for Nellie’s Tree
Voting for the European Tree of the Year Competition closed on 28th February. Nellie’s Tree is the English entry for Tree of the Year. The results will be announced at the Award Ceremony in Brussels, the 19th March, where the winners will be awarded.
2019-03-06 Fifty Years of Lotherton Hall
A new exhibition at Lotherton Hall is looking back at the last 50 years of the Hall, since it was gifted to Leeds City Council by the estate’s owner Sir Alvery Gascoigne. It is now one of Yorkshire’s most visited paid for attractions.

There will be a Sportscars in the Park event at Lotherton Hall on Sunday 21st July from 9am to 4pm. Tickets for the event go on sale on 6th May.
2019-02-12 Public Meeting in Aberford
Heineken UK will be hosting a public meeting on Tuesday 12th February at 8pm in Aberford village hall to provide information and answer questions regarding some abnormal loads that are due to come through Aberford in March/April 2019 (dates TBC). Free refreshments will be offered from the brewery and from the village hall cafe.

Lotherton Hall fashion galleries mark their 50th birthday by presenting a very forward-looking display of local designers. The clothes and accessories of past Yorkshire folk, great and small, have been saved, collected, preserved to display to the public. This year marks Lotherton’s 50th anniversary as a public museum and illustrates the importance of the Fashion Galleries, with exhibits dating from the 1600s to the present day
2019-02-09 Thefts from Vehicles
Between 1pm and 3pm on 6th February two vehicles were broken into whilst at a works compound in Hazlewood Castle. The first vehicle had the driver's window smashed and a blue coloured rucksack containing papers and a diary were stolen plus a grey tool. Nellie’s tree on the Fly Line has been nominated for European Tree of the Year. Voting takes place from 1st to 28th February 2019. The results will be announced at the Award Ceremony in Brussels on 19th March. The contest is organised by Environmental Partnership Association

There were three miles of queuing traffic on the A64 between the A659 and the A1(M) yesterday morning following an early morning accident that partially blocked the road. The road reopened around 7.45am.
